Maderas Golf Club: Quality At It's Best

Image
In this weeks post on 'San Diego's Best Golf Courses' we will be taking a look at one of San Diego best maintained courses: Maderas Golf Club.  THE COURSE:  Maderas Golf Club is located in far east San Diego, tucked in the mountains and surrounded by valleys, making it one of, if not the toughest golf course in all of San Diego. Maderas is a par 72, 18 hole course that stretches just over 7000 yards, making it incredibly long. The course demands that you hit not only long tee shots, but incredibly accurate ones too. Along with that several of the greens have very tricky pin placements requiring you to have a great short game. Strategically placed bunkers and lots of elevation changes only add to the complexity of the course.  QUALITY Maderas is the best maintained course that I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The dry, hot climate can make it really hard for grounds crews to keep the course in great shape, but they somehow manage to do it. All of the tee boxes and fa

The Crossings at Carlsbad: Hilly Paradise

Image
In this weeks edition of San Diego's Top Golf Courses, I'll be reviewing one of the more popular courses in San Diego, The Crossings at Carlsbad \ THE COURSE: The Crossings at Carlsbad is one of the most challenging, and most popular courses in San Diego. I would say it is in the Top 3 for most trafficked courses in San Diego.  The Crossings is an 18 Hole, Par 72 course. Not only is is super challenging, I think it might be the most unique course in San Diego. The course is carved into the hills of Carlsbad, just inland from the Pacific Ocean. Throughout the entire course, you are facing wild elevation changes from tee box to the green, which results in getting some interesting lies, forcing you to hit solid shots. Not only is there elevation changes to make it challenging, the course is super long, coming in at almost 7,000 yards, making it one of the longer courses in San Diego.  QUALITY:  The Crossings stays in pretty good shape all year around. I have seen it suffer a litt

Arrowood Golf Course : A Hidden Paradise

Image
In this weeks edition of "San Diego's Best Golf Courses', we will be taking a look at one of the most overlooked golf courses in San Diego: Arrowood Golf Course.  THE COURSE:  Located in Northern San Diego County, right next to Camp Pendleton, is what seems to be one of San Diego's most overlooked golf courses, Arrowood Golf Course. Arrowood is an 18 hole, Par 71 course designed by Ted Robinson Jr. The course features long, lush fairways, challenging bunker placements and incredible greens. Much like other courses we have reviewed, Arrowood uses the environment   around it to shape the course. Taking advantage of the rolling hills and deep valleys that the terrain has to offer. Arrowood is one of the longer courses in San Diego, with each of the par 5's reaching well over 500 yards, and a par 3 that is nearly 200 yards. Arrowood is not for the faint of heart, requiring long drives and iron shots throughout the course.  QUALITY:  Arrowood is one of, if not the most

Encinitas Ranch: Views for Days

Image
In this weeks edition of 'San Diego's Best Golf Courses, We will be taking a look at one of the most popular public courses in San Diego: Encinitas Ranch.  THE COURSE:  Tucked just inland on the Encinitas coastline, lies Encinitas Ranch Golf course, one of the most trafficked courses in San Diego. Encinitas Ranch is an 18 hole, par 72 course that is nearly 6600 yards long from the back tees. The course uses the environment around it to make it more challenging than it appears, with cliffs, rolling hills and well placed bunkers and pins, it makes the course much more challenging than what meets the naked eye. The front nine is shorter than the back nine, but more difficult, featuring totally blind tee shots as well as shots over canyons, with plenty of places to go out of bounds. The back nine on the other hand, it much more open and free. While there are still some blind and tight tee shots, overall it is much easier.  QUALITY:  For the amount of golfers that step on the ground
