Encinitas Ranch: Views for Days

In this weeks edition of 'San Diego's Best Golf Courses, We will be taking a look at one of the most popular public courses in San Diego: Encinitas Ranch.

THE COURSE:

Tucked just inland on the Encinitas coastline, lies Encinitas Ranch Golf course, one of the most trafficked courses in San Diego. Encinitas Ranch is an 18 hole, par 72 course that is nearly 6600 yards long from the back tees. The course uses the environment around it to make it more challenging than it appears, with cliffs, rolling hills and well placed bunkers and pins, it makes the course much more challenging than what meets the naked eye. The front nine is shorter than the back nine, but more difficult, featuring totally blind tee shots as well as shots over canyons, with plenty of places to go out of bounds. The back nine on the other hand, it much more open and free. While there are still some blind and tight tee shots, overall it is much easier.

QUALITY:

For the amount of golfers that step on the grounds of Encinitas Ranch everyday, the maintenance crew does an incredible job of keeping the course well maintained. The fairways are mowed to the perfect length and the greens stay in great shape.

VIEWS:

One of the best things that Encinitas Ranch has is its views. The course sits up on a hill, giving so many tee boxes and greens incredible views. From the course you are able to see much of the Southern California coastline, as well as the Pacific Ocean and parts of local towns Encinitas and Carlsbad. If you are lucky enough to snag a tee time during sunrise or sunset, you are in for some of the best views you can get from a course in San Diego.

OVERALL:

Encinitas Ranch is one of the most entertaining courses that I have been able to play. Featuring two rather different nines, you are able to really test all of your skills. If you are ever in San Diego for a golf trip, I would highly recommend Encinitas Ranch, just ensure that you book your tee times in advance, as they do fill up very quick. If you are lucky to get one you are in for a great course with some of the best views from a golf course in all of San Diego.
