Fairbanks Ranch Country Club Unveiled

 In this weeks post in the series "San Diego's Best Golf Courses" I'll be reviewing one of San Diego's biggest country clubs: Fairbanks Ranch. 

THE COURSE:

Fairbanks Ranch is one of San Diego’s largest country clubs, featuring pickleball courts, tennis courts, swimming amenities, a private gym, and most importantly, three different nine hole courses. The first 9 is ‘The Valley Nine’, their website describes it as “Set below the scenic hills of Fairbanks Ranch, accurate tee shots are crucial to shooting low in the valley”. The second 9 is ‘The Lakes Nine’ described as             “The lakes are only matched in beauty by the incredibly designed holes surrounding them. Stay out of the water and you’ll shoot well”. Lastly Fairbanks hosts ‘The Ocean Nine’ described as “The shortest and straightest of the nines, but don’t let that fool you as it’s just as challenging as the rest”.

 

Fairbanks Ranch is truly one of the more difficult course that I have played. Boasting a rating of 75.0 it makes it one of the tougher courses that I’ve played simply based off the numbers. One of the best qualities of this course is the ability to play three different nines, all of which are very different. Each of the nines are challenging in their own right, forcing you to hit a variety of different shots based on what the hole calls for.

 


QUALITY:

I’ve had the pleasure of playing Fairbanks at all different times of the year. Each of which as not disappointed. The grounds crew at Fairbanks does an amazing job at keeping the course in great condition year around. The courses most recent renovation came in 2004, they added their 3rd nine, and made some minor improvements and changes to the existing holes on the course. This past summer, they did a minor renovation to some holes, removing trees and extending a few holes by moving the tee boxes back.

 

VIEWS:

Fairbanks has some incredible views throughout the course. On the Valley Nine, you are able to see some of the rolling hills of San Diego. The Ocean Nine gives views of the Pacific Ocean, as well as the marsh lands surrounding the course. Lastly, the Lakes Nine shows off much of the course, placed right in the middle of the course you are able to get great views of the course as a whole.

 


OVERALL:

Fairbanks Ranch is not only an incredible set of courses, but is a great country club overall. The ability to play three very different nines, is an incredible experience, along with the great condition that the course stays in makes Fairbanks Ranch a great place. Encinitas Ranch: Views for Days

In this weeks edition of 'San Diego's Best Golf Courses, We will be taking a look at one of the most popular public courses in San Diego: Encinitas Ranch.  THE COURSE:  Tucked just inland on the Encinitas coastline, lies Encinitas Ranch Golf course, one of the most trafficked courses in San Diego. Encinitas Ranch is an 18 hole, par 72 course that is nearly 6600 yards long from the back tees. The course uses the environment around it to make it more challenging than it appears, with cliffs, rolling hills and well placed bunkers and pins, it makes the course much more challenging than what meets the naked eye. The front nine is shorter than the back nine, but more difficult, featuring totally blind tee shots as well as shots over canyons, with plenty of places to go out of bounds. Del Mar Country Club: Pristine Golf

 In this weeks edition of "San Diego's Best Golf Courses" we will be taking a look at another one of San Diego's incredible country clubs: Del Mar Country Club.  THE COURSE:  Del Mar Country Club is one of the nicest and most challenging golf courses I ever had the pleasure of playing. Once again, tucked into the hills of Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar is an exceptional club and course. Coming in at 7,226 yards from the back tees, it is one of the longer courses in Southern California. The par 72, 18 hole course is sure to challenge every golfer. With long, accurate tee shots required, the challenges don't stop there. Each green and fairway is littered with fairway bunkers, having accurate, long tee shots all day is the key to success at Del Mar Country Club.  QUALITY:  The grounds crew at Del Mar Country Club does a great job at keeping the course well maintained all year long.
